Social media marketing is the process of enhancing web traffic through the use of social media sites.
Some of the more popular social media sites are:
In business or marketing it’s all about relationships. People tend to do business with people they know and trust. Social media success hinges on a lot of the same ideas that helped get you to where you are today: helping others, building relationships and being human.
Social media and SEO go hand-in-hand. They both complement each other. One of the number one contributors to website SEO is Facebook. People may not get to your website initially, but if they find you on Facebook and are interested in what you have to say, they will probably continue to your website. One of the biggest flaws I see in social media is a small business that has no link to their website, or at least it’s not clear where it is.
You can look at it this way as well. People visiting your website will see what you say about your business and about your services. They will then visit your social media sites to see what others are saying. This process will usually take place before you ever get a call, email, or a contact submission.
You don’t have to be on every social media platform to be successful at it. Choose a couple that you like, or where your competition is, and start there. But, you also need a plan. Nothing looks worse than a business Facebook page that is old with no fresh content posted. It signifies disengagement and people will move on to something else.
A well defined plan is important. It would be better not to be on Facebook, Twitter or Google+ or any of the others if you’re not going to have it actively managed.
You may have heard of the new jobs being created for ‘social media managers’ at different companies. This is a growing trend and shows the importance of this growing platform for marketing and branding.
